Good morning. Today on the show:
  • 09.35am: Prof. Clare Collins talks about how beetroot and other vegetables high in nitrates can lower your blood pressure
The vegetables are:
Very High: Celery, watercress, lettuce, beetroot, spinach, rocket
High: Chinese cabbage, leek, parsley, fennel, endive
Medium: Savoy cabbage, other cabbage varieties, turnip, dill
Low: Broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, pumpkin, cucumber
Very Low: Potato, eggplant. garlic onion, green beans, mushrooms, asparagus, broad beans, peas, capsicum, tomato, sweet potato.

Clare suggests people ADD these on top of what they already eat
Next swap any low ones for high to very high types
Add them to a vegetable soup
Add them to a stir fry
Aim to have 5 serves of salad and vegetables every day
You can still eat the low and very low ones, just also include 2-3 of your serves from the very high to high nitrate group every day.
